Peplum is an old word, but very few of us actually know what it means. That’s why I am here to give you the modern-day definition. A peplum is the tutu like look that is created at the bottom of jackets and shirts or at the waist of dresses and skirts. It’s a short, flared, gathered strip of fabric which creates a tutu like appearance. I am educating you on the peplum because it’s a huge trend for spring.I would say Victoria Beckham brought it back last spring with her peplum dresses worn by the likes of Jennifer Hudson and Blake Lively.
Peplums were seen all over the spring runways last September on skirts, dresses, and blouses. The looks is flattering because it creates this illusion of a small waste but wide hips and looks good on many body types. So how do you take the trend from the runway to your closet? With ease of course, try a peplum mini skirt they are flirty and add another layer to a super short look. Also try a short jacket with a little peplum it a cool way to add body to a structured jacket. Personally I wouldn’t wear the peplum in full-out form, but if you can pull of a super flouncy peplum I would say go for it.
